For over 40 years, I have been privileged to train actors in NYC at the Patterson Studio, and fortunate to be able to do so without compromising the disciplined foundational acting study process. Perhaps, the wisest (or luckiest) decision I have made is focus my career on working with people of incredible dedication, talent, and fortitude.
Acting is continual commitment by people planning a life in the theater, film and television. Our work is for people who aspire to be working in a legitimate, and hopefully, classical way 20 years from today. Those who hope to approach anything from an original play to Shakespeare will benefit. It’s a process that will give the actor a complete approach with the tools to recreate a role to the minutest detail. No matter what society or viewpoint the playwright is writing from the techniques support the core of the actor’s approach.
Our upcoming full 28-month program starts in September so consider starting your career study!
We select 8 people to be invited for the full program. The age range is 25-50 years of age.The interview is approximately 1 hour long.
For a concise synopsis of the full program visit the Studio Program page.
There is also an introductory seminar/class on Tuesday. During the class the entire process will be explained. Everyone in the class will have the opportunity to work 3 times at the very beginning of the process. I wanted an affordable way for serious actors interested in learning more about TPS to come in and experience the foundational classic actor’s study program.
During the seminar or course study, it is helpful for everyone to develop their interpretive process and in fact stretching to reach their potential. Each student will be asked to attend dance, give a speech, and perhaps singing as a part our Alexander technique work. These exercises help form the basis for the work ahead.
Classes are kept small so that each student is taken through the process receiving complete attention.
The students (visit our Alumni page) I have taught are always the studio’s greatest asset. They are serious in their unswerving dedication to the craft, equipped with the long-term view of their work based in excellence and learning skills necesary for a complete foundation in acting & performance.
There are truly no shortcuts to personal greatness and acting study is no different. We are rooted in the classical tradition of theatrical arts. The most gratifying thing for me is to see any (and hopefully every) student complete their study with their best grasp of the fundamentals of the craft.
I consider myself quite fortunate in my experiences with each student as I believe one teaches to learn. For that I could not be more grateful! We hope to see you at intro class or if you are ready move forward please visit our class page for Evening & Weekend courses that will bring you closer to your goals as an Actor.
