Our Vision of Acting Study & Training

In the early part of the last century The Group Theatre revolutionized American theatre by incorporating a form of acting training based on “the system” of Constantin Stanislavski. The Group became a huge commercial success, and produced some of the greatest acting teachers of the 20th century: Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Robert Lewis, and most importantly, Sanford Meisner.

However, “the system” was evolving, and within the Group competing schools of thought emerged. Stella Adler and Sanford Meisner broke from Strasberg’s psychological “method”, after they learned from Stanislavski that his system had grown from its earlier incarnation.  Adler incorporated Stanislavski’s new innovations into her classes, and Meisner formulated “the reality of doing”, a new technique.

After Stanislavski, Meisner’s approach was the next great step in the evolution of Acting training . . .

Constantin Stanislavski conceived of a system,

Sanford Meisner developed a teachable approach,

Robert Patterson has evolved and completed a craft.

The Work that is taught at The Patterson Studiois the NEW revolution in The Craft of Acting. Bob’s complete approach to Acting has developed over more than four decades of teaching experience, and is as revolutionary today, as the advent of the Group Theatre was, over 80 years ago.
